What To Wear There (“we,” “us,” or “our”) operates the website at https://whattowearthere.com and related subdomains used to deliver site features (for example, geolocation for travel widgets).

2. Scope
This policy describes how we collect, use, share, and store information when you:
- Visit or browse the Site
- Leave comments
- Interact with ads, affiliate links, travel/flight widgets, or weather features
- Contact us by email
It does not cover the privacy practices of third-party websites you reach via our links (Amazon, Viator, Travelpayouts widgets, Pinterest, Weather Spark, etc.). Their own policies apply once you leave our Site.
3. Information we collect
3.1 Information you provide

We do not require an account to read the blog. We do not intentionally collect sensitive categories of personal data (e.g., health, precise home address) as a primary purpose of the Site.
3.2 Information collected automatically
When you visit the Site, we and our providers may process:
- Device and log data: IP address, browser type, device type, operating system, referring URL, pages viewed, approximate time of visit
- Approximate location: country/region/city and nearest airport inferred from IP (see MaxMind / Geo Target below)—not precise GPS unless you separately grant location permission to your browser (we do not request that for core site features today)
- Cookies, pixels, and similar technologies: identifiers used for analytics, ads, caching, and affiliate attribution
- Local browser storage: for example, a short-lived
sessionStoragekey used to remember your inferred departure airport for flight widgets during your browsing session
3.3 Information we do not sell as a consumer data broker
We do not sell your name or email in a mailing-list / broker sense. Some advertising and affiliate technologies may involve “sharing” or “sale” of online identifiers under certain U.S. state privacy laws (see Section 10). You can use the controls in Section 9.
4. How we use information
We use information to:
- Operate, secure, and improve the Site (hosting, CDN, caching, abuse prevention)
- Understand aggregate traffic and content performance (analytics)
- Measure engagement with features such as seasonal weather “Details” links
- Show relevant travel and shopping content (flight widgets, marketplace locale, affiliate offers)
- Moderate comments and respond to messages
- Comply with law and enforce our terms
5. Cookies and similar technologies
We use cookies and similar technologies for:

Browser controls. Most browsers let you block or delete cookies. Blocking cookies may break comments, widgets, or other features.
Google signals / ads personalization. Depending on your location, you may see cookie or consent controls that let you manage analytics and advertising preferences.
6. Third-party services and integrations
These are the main third parties involved when you use the public Site. Backend-only tools we use to create content (AI image generators, editorial scheduling dashboards, etc.) are not described here unless they process your visitor data.
6.1 Website hosting and WordPress
The Site is a WordPress website. Server logs and WordPress may process IP addresses, requested URLs, and (if you comment) the data you submit. Comments may display your name and website URL publicly if you provide them.
6.2 Cloudflare
We use Cloudflare as a content delivery network (CDN) and security / performance layer in front of the Site. Cloudflare may process IP addresses, request metadata, and set cookies necessary for delivery, caching, and security. See Cloudflare’s privacy policy.
6.3 Google Analytics 4
We use Google Analytics 4 (measurement ID G-7056ZYY5S3) to understand how visitors use the Site (e.g., pages viewed, approximate geography, device category, referral sources). Google may set cookies or use similar identifiers.

We may also send custom events (for example, clicks on seasonal weather “Details” links) into Analytics / the data layer.
6.4 Google Tag Manager
We use Google Tag Manager (container GTM-PCC5Q4L2) to load and manage measurement and marketing tags. GTM itself is a tag-delivery system; the tags configured in that container (including Analytics and advertising tags) determine what data is collected.
6.5 Advanced Ads
The Site uses an advertising plugin (Advanced Ads) to place ad units. Depending on configuration, this may load ad networks that set cookies or collect device/IP data. We will update this section as ad partners change.
6.6 IP geolocation (MaxMind) and Geo Target
To personalize travel widgets (for example, suggesting a departure airport for flight offers), our Geo Target service (geo.whattowearthere.com) may:
- Receive your IP address (often via Cloudflare’s connecting-IP header)
- Look up an approximate location using MaxMind GeoLite web services
- Derive a nearest airport / city identifier
- Return that to the page so a third-party travel widget can use a
fromlocation
We may temporarily store the inferred departure identifier in your browser’s session storage (about one hour) so we do not re-query on every page view during the same session.
MaxMind’s processing is subject to MaxMind’s privacy policy. We use geolocation for approximate location to power features and offers—not to identify you personally.
6.7 Travel / flight widgets (Travelpayouts / tpwidg)
On some pages we embed a travel search widget loaded from tpwidg.com (Travelpayouts / related travel affiliate systems). The widget may receive destination and inferred departure parameters and collect its own cookies / click data. Interaction with the widget is governed by that provider’s policies. Affiliate tracking IDs may be included in the embed so we can earn commissions on qualifying bookings.
6.8 Amazon Associates (affiliate shopping links)
We participate in the Amazon Associates program (and may localize marketplace domains such as amazon.com, amazon.ca, amazon.co.uk, etc., based on approximate country from IP). Product links may include affiliate tags. Amazon may use cookies to attribute purchases. See Amazon’s Privacy Notice. Purchases are made on Amazon’s site under Amazon’s terms.

6.9 Viator / Tripadvisor Experiences (affiliate tour links)
Some posts include links to Viator (including branded short links) for tours and experiences. Clicking those links may involve affiliate tracking and Viator’s own cookies / privacy practices: Viator Privacy Policy.
6.10 Seasonal weather data (Open-Meteo, OpenWeatherMap) and Weather Spark links
Many posts show seasonal climate cards. Historical climate summaries are retrieved via our servers from Open-Meteo (and related public climate data) for the article destination, not for your home address. Current temperature for that destination may also be retrieved via our servers from OpenWeatherMap, so visitors can see whether conditions are unusually warm or cold versus typical seasonal ranges. We send destination coordinates to these providers—not your home address. Approximate visitor country (via our geolocation service) may be used only to choose Celsius vs Fahrenheit display for those cards. “Details” links may send you to Weather Spark pages about that destination. We may log analytics events when those links are clicked. Weather Spark’s and OpenWeatherMap’s own policies apply when you interact with their services.
6.11 Pinterest (“Pin It” buttons)
We use a Pinterest “Pin It” / save button plugin so you can save images to Pinterest. Loading or using those buttons may allow Pinterest to receive page URL and image information and set cookies. See Pinterest Privacy Policy.
6.12 Fonts and media CDNs
The Site may load web fonts or assets from Google Fonts / related CDNs. Requests for fonts can expose your IP address to those providers.
6.13 LiteSpeed Cache / performance plugins
We use caching and performance tooling (including LiteSpeed Cache at origin) to serve pages faster. These tools primarily process technical request data already described above.
7. How we share information
We share information with:
- Service providers who help run the Site (hosting, Cloudflare, analytics, geolocation, ad/affiliate platforms) under their terms and for the purposes above
- Affiliate and advertising partners when you click links or load widgets, so they can attribute referrals
- Authorities if required by law or to protect rights, safety, and security
- A successor if the Site is transferred as part of a sale or reorganization
We do not post your email in comments publicly (WordPress typically keeps emails for moderation), but anything you include in the comment body is public.

9. Your choices and rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict certain processing, or to object to certain uses (including advertising).
Practical controls for all visitors:
- Use browser settings to block cookies / clear site data
- Install the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on
- Avoid clicking affiliate links or interacting with widgets you do not want to engage
- Do not leave a comment if you do not want to provide name/email
- Email us at [[email protected]] to request access/deletion of comment or contact data we hold
EEA / UK / Switzerland (GDPR):
California / other U.S. states: You may have rights to know, delete, and opt out of “sale” or “sharing” of personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. Affiliate and analytics cookies may qualify under those definitions.
Canada (PIPEDA / provincial laws): Contact us to exercise access or correction rights for information we control.
We will not discriminate against you for exercising privacy rights we are required to honor.
10. Children’s privacy
The Site is intended for a general audience and is not directed at children under 13 (or under 16 where a higher age applies). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child provided information, contact us and we will take appropriate steps to delete it.
11. International transfers
We and our providers (Google, Cloudflare, MaxMind, Amazon, Viator, Travelpayouts, etc.) may process data in the United States and other countries. Those countries may have different data-protection laws than yours. Where required, providers use contractual safeguards (such as Standard Contractual Clauses).
12. Security
We take reasonable technical and organizational measures (HTTPS, CDN protections, access controls for our systems). No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure.
13. Third-party links
Articles may link to Amazon, Viator, Weather Spark, Pinterest, airline or hotel sites, and other destinations. We are not responsible for their content or privacy practices.
14. Affiliate disclosure (FTC / similar)
What To Wear There contains affiliate links and commercial widgets. If you click and purchase or book, we may earn a commission at no additional cost to you. This does not change the price you pay the merchant.
15. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top will change when we do. Material changes may also be highlighted on the Site. Continued use after an update means you acknowledge the revised policy where permitted by law.
